Okay, I’m going to share with you about our plans for our house on our land. This may come as a shock to some of you, as you may know me, or at least you thought you knew me, lol.
So, about 3 years ago when the idea to get some land and make a go at becoming more self sufficient and start a small homestead came into our heads (hubs and I), my hubby started thinking outside the box. A lot. So way far outside the box that at first I thought he had lost his mind. Now, don’t get me wrong, I still loved him (and of course I still do! lol) but this idea he had in his head had me shaking my head in disbelief.
Well, Silvio pitched me an idea that I thought was the silliest things I had ever heard for a new house. He proposed that we build our new home out of shipping containers.
Yes, you absolutely read that correctly, out of Shipping Containers. Essentially, a DIY House.
Like the ones that get shipped across the oceans on large ships.
Like the ones that travel by railcar across the nation carrying goods.
Like the ones that travel by semi-truck.
Like these shipping containers, except he wants to use them for our house.
It’s okay. I promise. When you are finished shaking your head, I’ll be right here, waiting . . . done? Okay.
I have to admit, Silvio had quite the brilliant idea. One that I had to adjust to but in the end, I could understand his logic. Once I was on board, I just had to convince every person I knew that my hubby wasn’t a total nutcase and that I was alright with this outside the box idea.
This is a total off the grid, unconventional, different type of house, but one that we are so looking to get into soon.
Lots of time went into just the right layout for the house. More on that later though.
I’m getting ahead of myself.
We still had lots to do before we could get any sort of hard plans to start building a house. But, I think you are going to get a kick out of this unconventional house that we are going to build. It is way cool and I am already in love!
Stick around, I’ll have more to share shortly.
In His Grace.
Callie
