If you are in business, you most probably have been trying to get customers to buy your products or avail of your services. But have you ever thought about trying to gain clients instead of customers for your business? I know what you’re thinking now. Isn’t it the same – customers are also clients?
Actually there is a big difference between the two terms. To learn about these two, you have to ask yourself first these questions –
Can you actually tell from your clients that you know well enough who among them needs a particular product or service you provide? Can you really say what each of your clients need that you can give them? Do you know of anyone in your list that you can very well say what product or service he or she needs that gives solution to his or her problems and issues? Can you actually call a client cold and then ask for a referral or a testimony in your marketing collaterals? Or can you even ask clients directly to pass on your color business cards to their colleagues or friends who might have a need for your business? What about clients whom you can get as reference without having to ask permission first before you put their names in your marketing tools such as your business card printing and print flyers? Are you confident enough to say that your clients have respect for you and confidence in the service you provide?
If you are able to answer all these in the positive then you are indeed very fortunate as you can be successful in your business endeavor.
So going back to our first question – what is the difference between clients and customers? According to expert marketers, clients are more preferable for business owners as they can sustain any business because they can make the business more profitable than the business owner can ever imagine.
Going on that premise, it is therefore safe to say that as a business owner, you should target clients and not just customers to your business. Because your clients will be able to make a success of your business for a very long time.
Hence, it is good advice to have your clients stay in your business by building strong connections with them. You should be able to build better relations with them as they are the ones who are actually bringing in the profits not just at one time but for a much longer time.
So more than customers, clients are what you should aim for when you grow your business. The big difference from customers is that clients stay for a very long time because they trust you, they are confident about your products and services, and that your benefits are what they are looking for. In fact, the price or the convenience are not the primary factors why they stay; it’s actually the respect and trust that they have for you that clinch it.
It’s not like your clients were convinced by your elaborate business card printing or color business cards. Or that you happen to be there at the right time and place when your clients were looking for the solutions you provide. It is actually that they trust you enough to give you their hard earned money so you can guide them to make smart decisions.
So that’s the difference between a customer and a client. Next time you’re printing your marketing collaterals, aim for the clients. They would be the ones who’ll be with you in the long haul so be sure to take care of them.
