“Hmmmmmmm, Hmmmmmmmm, Yummmmmmmy!” As my family would say. How to make some of the most delicious homemade banana bread.
I will sometimes intentionally buy extra bananas just so I can let them get really ripe so I can make banana bread.
This is a family favorite and it is soooo deliciously fantastic!
The best part about this recipe is that it is so healthy that I let this be lunch for my family today.
Since I know exactly what ingredients are in it, I am totally comfortable letting this be a fun and absolutely delicious lunch!
Recipe to follow at the end but here is my photo step by step.
I gather my ingredients to make a double batch of banana bread.
B peels and gets the bananas ready.
Half mash your four bananas, leaving them partially whole. It gives a better texture to the banana bread.
Cream butter and sugar together until well blended.
Add your wet ingredients (mashed bananas, sour cream, vanilla) just until blended. Do not over mix.
Blended wet ingredients.
Add your dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, salt) until blended.
Add in your favorite nuts, mix by hand just until blended.
Pour your batter into your ready to go baking pan just as Bubba is doing.
Smooth it out for an even bake, if you like, just like Little Bubba is doing here.
Looks so wondeful and ready for the oven!
My double batch of banana bread ready for the oven.
Perfect fit for the middle rack of my oven.
Fresh from the oven goodness!
As we waited for the banana bread to cool off a bit before we started to chow down on it, I quickly made a batch of Honey Butter to go with the bread. Very simply ingredients, salted butter and honey!
Honey Butter Ingredients.
Honey Butter ready for use.
After what seemed like F-O-R-E-V-E-R we were finally able to cut into the still piping hot banana bread.
As my family and I salivated, I cut and buttered some pieces to hand out to those that had waited ever so patiently.
Plated and ready to serve Mama’s Banana Bread topped with Honey Butter. Delicious!
Now that you are ready to go make your own homemade Mama’s Banana Bread with Honey Butter, here is what you need:
Ingredients for Mama’s Banana Bread
- 1 stick butter (or 1/2 cup), at room temperature, plus some for the pan (I actually use Crisco for my pans)
- 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 rounded teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 ripe medium/large bananas*
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 rounded cup sour cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- small bag of nuts (today, peanuts & pecan pieces) of your choosing
- (I also use chocolate chips sometimes, about 1 cup)
- 9×13 baking pan or a * loaf pan
* Note to Cook – To ripen your bananas quickly, put them into a paper bag and fold down the top. This will help the bananas ripen much faster, likely in 1-2 days.
Honey Butter
- 1 stick of salted butter, softened
- 4 tablespoons of honey
This recipe has been amended to my liking. But the recipe that inspired me is found here.
