There I was, sitting in the passengers seat of our truck, when I took a moment to check out my latest book review. At first I wasn’t so sure about this one. I was trying to wrap my brain around the fact that this was a Christian book, yet it was a murder mystery as well. Having not read any books in this series before, I was no quite sure what to expect from River’s Edge.
What I found in the book was a heart warming story of how family is supposed to work, wether you are blood relation or not. I found a story of hope and longing swirled with grace and knowing. Murder mystery? Yes…but yet, so much more.
Each character began to creep into my heart as I read more and more. Chief Cade and best friend Jonathan. Sweet Morgan and loving sister Clair. Teen Sadie, her precious little brother Caleb, and their mother, Sheila. These characters are well written and I was drawn into their lives very quickly. It was easy to feel like I was in Cape Refuge with them. I cried, I laughed, and I was surprised numerous times throughout the story.
As I travelled, I read the story. By the middle of the book, I could hardly put it down. I was so curious to find out what would happen next. At one point, I stayed up later than my family and read the book in the hotel bathroom, as not to disturb them while they slept!
The story is wrapped around many characters but the author does a wonderful job of making it appear like a seamless work of art. The twists and turns the story took were easy to follow and so well written!
If you are looking for an inspirational yet intriguing story, this is that type of story. Bible verses are common throughout the story as well as the characters speaking about God in every area of their lives. You will read about the characters struggles in their walk with the Lord, which is a wonderful way to treat the reader. Allowing the reader to see the struggle and then to witness the Lord in the solution.
I throughly enjoyed this story and I will need to go back and read the other books in this series.
I look forward to sharing my next book review with you soon. Don’t miss it!
In His Grace.
