The Art of Losing Yourself
In a good book, there is always something that the reader can identify with. As I began reading this book I was instantly able to identify with both the young teenager, Gracie, as well as her older sister Carmen. Here’s why…
Carmen is a successful metrologist married to the man of her dreams yet there is a disconnect from God that has her unsteady in her faith. Her struggles are hidden most of the time from the world around her and her marriage is taking a hard hit because of her emotional state.
Gracie is a deeply troubled teenager that cannot run away from her past fast enough. She heads to the one place that gave her some peace in her life but no one is there to help her recover from the aches and pains that she has had inflicted on her.
As sisters, Carmen and Gracie are connected through their mother and all of the issues that come along with that relationship. Each of them must learn to overcome the past so that God can work His peace into their lives. But will they be able to override the history they have or will they be able to let go of the past burdens that they carry? Will they learn to let others in that truly care for them or will they loss the ones that they care for the most?
Journey with sisters that find out the meaning of learning to trust in God and His ultimate mercies that He offers.
My Thoughts and Opinions
Each page I read drew me deeper into the heart of the story. I felt a connection with both Gracie and Carmen.
As a young girl, like Gracie, I too remember the thoughts that ranged from “not enough” to the “nobody wants me”. The author pulled from the depths of my heart when she wrote these words as it felt true to the character. Gracie seemed real to me and I enjoyed watching the character bloom as the story progressed. I may be well into my adult years but this young character still had much to say, and I am thankful that she was written so well.
As an woman, Carmen had many qualities that I can identify with. The married woman that had the ability to hide her emotions, her trust in God and sometimes the lack thereof, as well as the distance she let grow between herself and her husband. Every single one of these traits seem so true to life that I felt that this character could be the woman that lives next door…or myself. The thoughts and feelings are well written and pulled me into the story.
I laughed, I cried, I prayed, I cheered.
It isn’t too often lately that a book can touch my heart as throughly as this one has. I would recommend this book to my book loving friends for the depth of the characters and the inspiring story that has lots of heart involved. Well done Katie Ganshert, well done!
Thanks for visiting and reading my latest review, I cannot wait to share what I read next.
In His Grace.
