So many people are into buying boxed curriculum for their little ones for school.
I get it. It’s easier, it seems to cover all of the bases.
It just isn’t for me though.
When I started homeschooling Isaiah back in 2006, I grabbed a few books from ABeka but that was it, no mega money was spent. And here’s why.
Little kids need lots of breaks, and a lot of hands on work. At least Isaiah did…but I’m pretty sure that is the norm for young ones.
So, knowing that Joseph is only 7 this year, I realized that his school supply list is rather the same as what I collected for Isaiah years ago. Actually, I guess I have always stocked up on the same things throughout the years, it just makes sense to me.
Without further ado, here is my school supply list for elementary homeschool kids.
Elementary Homeschool Supply List
- colored pencils
- dry erase board
- dry erase markers
- dry eraser
- construction paper
- hole punch
- liquid (white and clear)
- money (make your own, use real money or play money)
- face clock
- elementary writing paper
- small manipulatives for math
- craft sticks
- watercolor paints
- old tee shirt for painters smock
These items can be used every year until at least 4th grade (at my house, it was 6th for Isaiah). Adding to the list as the children get older and their opinions on the “stuff” changes. Also including more school books and paper as needed.
This list though can cover a multitude of subjects for the littlest people in your house.
Homeschooling the younger years does not have to be hard.
It needs to be a time to encourage learning and the love of learning…so keep it light mama, let the littlest ones count money, play store, write their name, color you a picture, and so much more.
Make this school year one that you both look back on with love and laughter.
In His Grace.
