We live in such a fast paced world that life can become filled with tasks, that we don’t find time to sit down and be with God. Between work, errands, cooking meals, taking care of children, schoolwork, to name a few tasks! No matter how busy life can get, we have to take the time to sit down, and spend time with God. He longs for us, and as much as he needs us, we need him.
Have you ever felt so consumed by a checklist of things to get done in a day, that you find yourself stressed, and overwhelmed? Well, to refuel and find the strength to keep going, all comes down to our Heavenly Father! He refuels us, gives us strength, peace, and hope for the day! I truly believe that we can design our days to work around tasks, and get them checked off our list, and still find time for God at the end of the day.
“In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:6 (NKJV)
When we do this, we might find that we become more productive, peaceful, and are content with our lifestyle! How is this possible, you might ask? Well, below I will share some strategies that you can incorporate into our daily lives.
Ways to Spend Time With God Each Day
If you can’t find the time to sit down each day purposely to read your bible or do a devotional, you can use time that you may not have thought of. We can implement God in our lives, all day everyday if we just get creative with out time! God doesn’t care if you are doing laundry while you pray to him, he is just thankful you are building your faith and relationship with him.
When you are out running errands, remember that all the glory goes to God! Could you glorify God at Dunkin Donuts? Sure! You could pay it forward and pay for the person behind you. You can always find ways to bless others, and glorify God, you just have to be open and think outside of the box.
Look at Your Schedule
Make sure you take a good look at your schedule, of what it is filled with. Some of the items on your agenda you might be able to say goodbye to, and open up free time for you and your family! Sometimes we say “yes” to so many things, that before we know it, we are on the go non-stop for things that don’t make us happy at the end of the day. We need to put God first in our lives, and sometimes being cluttered with activities can blind us.
Drive Time – When you are driving, put on some Christian music, or turn to a station that plays uplifting music. Find yourself getting into praise and worship as you drive. You might be amazed at how much uplifting music can change your mood for the day. One local Christian station, does a dare, where you dare to spend 30 days listening only to Christian music. The results are amazing at how much it can set the mood, and give you a little time worshiping God on your commute or shuttling around children.
Cooking Dinner – As you go to chop up those veggies and prep dinner, consider turning on music or praying silently! It might not be your ideal time, but it is time where you can focus on prayer while you are prepping for dinner! This goes for doing dishes as well.
Wake Up Early – (This one is so very hard for me. I often have to do Midnights with Jesus. But midnight doesn’t always work well for everyone, so . . . ) Even waking up 30 minutes earlier, you can find time to read your devotional, or fit in a few scriptures while sipping on your coffee! I love getting up when the house is quiet to spend time with God. I think reading your bible or devotional first thing in the morning is a great way to fuel your day for a positive outlook on the day! (And I do try to at least take a few minutes of quiet in the morning to “get my head and heart right”.)
Grab a Movie – Find a Christian movie to watch with you and your family! Or if it is just you, take time to watch one for yourself! Christian movies always have such a great message within them. I am a huge fan of the movie Heaven Is For Real! I also sometimes go on YouTube and watch sermons from some of my favorites, like Joyce Meyers. They are free and you just stream them, and if you have a Smart TV you can stream to your television. I also love PureFlix as a wonderful alternative to other streaming companies. All Christian content so I never have any worries about what I might “stumble” upon.
Folding Laundry – Laundry is an endless chore, and it never seems to be done (And if you know me at ALL, I truly despise it!). As you sit and fold laundry, again take the opportunity to pray, listen to worship music, or even stream an audio book! We live in a busy world and most of us are used to multi-tasking! I find praising God during my cleaning and laundry chore, helps it go faster, and I find peace.
This list is a much for you as it is for me. I pray that you and I can carve out some (more) time in our busy schedules to spend time with God.
In His Grace,
Callie
