A child is an amazing blessing from the Lord! They can brighten up our lives more than we ever imagined! Bring laughter, love, happiness into our lives, and forever change us. They teach us to be selfless and put our focus into raising them, and doing our best that they are cared for, loved, learning, growing, and becoming close with the Lord.
We can’t control everything that happens in our child’s life, and for that we can use prayer! Prayer is a great way to pray protection, health, and guidance over our child. God is the one who created our child, and He loves them even more than we do! I know that is often hard to fathom, but it is true. Prayer is so powerful, and I think it is so important to pray daily for our children, no matter how big or small they may be.
10 Ways to Pray Over Your Child
I have written a list below of ideas on what to pray for your child, including a bible verse. You can speak these affirmations over your child as well as praying for them each day. When we speak out loud, it has a power, and the same is for prayer!
Protection
Make sure to take time to pray for protection over your child. We live in a very hurtful world, and pray that your child will be protected from any harm or wickedness of this world.
The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe. Proverbs 18:10
Blessings
Pray that your child has favor over them, and that the Lord will bless them in all areas of their life!
The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26
Joy and Peace
In life we can have our joy stolen from us, so make sure that your child is blessed with joy and peace all of their days! That as they grow, they can see the optimistic outlook on all areas of their life.
You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11
Courage
Pray that your child can have the courage to conquer any obstacle in their life. That as they grow they will deeper their faith in God, and that they will have the courage to stand strong in their beliefs even if they feel different.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
Faithfulness
In all of their days, that they stand strong in their faith. That they have a drive and passion to draw stronger in their faith!
May the Lord repay every man for his righteousness and his faithfulness; for the Lord delivered you into my hand today, but I would not stretch out my hand against the Lord’s anointed. 1 Samuel 26:23
Health
That they will have emotional, mental and physical health, all the days of their life. All of these are important to keeping a healthy lifestyle. Pray for a covering of protection.
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. 3 John 1:2
Love
Pray that your child is filled with love! That in all areas of their life that they will love others and know true love including the love that God feels for them.
Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 1 John 3:1
Wisdom
Pray for wisdom and guidance over their life. That they will learn to hear and obey the voice of the Lord and recognize when God speaks to them.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Proverbs 9:10
Future Spouse
Praying for the future spouse of your children is so important. You want them to find someone who is equally yoked in faith, and will love your child more than anyone. Be faithful, committed and dedicated to creating a life with your child.
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
Friendships
They they be blessed with strong Christian friends! Having good friends is great for your child’s social and emotional well being.
The righteous should choose his friends carefully, For the way of the wicked leads them astray. Proverbs 12:26
These are but a few ways that you can pray over your children. Praying aloud allows these truths to be spoken into existence. Nothing could bless them more than knowing that they are loved and prayed for often. Know that teaching them Biblical principles is so important. Stay strong in your faith mama and know that this is all for His glory. You will reap your harvest in due time.
