and it was beautiful by Kara Tippetts

And it Was Beautiful

I have never read a book that reached in and touched my soul as much as this book did. I followed Kara from a far distance when she was alive and when her death drew near, she was in my view a lot. Then when she went home to Jesus, I completely fell apart. Kara was the epitome of the grace-filled mama that I would love to be. The truthful woman that needed God and wasn’t afraid to share her heart, even in the midst of great sadness. That Kara was able to hang on to God even in her weakest moments, makes me yearn to be a better woman, wife, and mama to my children.

. . . and it was beautiful . . .

This book was one that I cried almost after each entry, or chapter. The rawness. The truthfulness. The sadness. The joy. The grace. The utter needing of The One True God.

I am overwhelmed with the range of emotions that I experienced as I read this book, or rather this memoir from a mama, a mama that needed Jesus. I am encouraged to live my life to the absolute fullest. To hug more. Kiss more. Be truly present in the lives of the ones I love the most. I am also reminded that no matter what life we are given, that it is our responsibility to live it to the utmost of our ability. Let us finish well. Let us make sure, even in our dying days that we give it our all and give praise to the Father that counts our days.

My heart is swallowed up in the love that Kara tried to hang onto even into her last day. It was hard to read for my heart ached with her words when she spoke of the love she had for her husband, her children, and her sister. But I am so wonderfully thrilled that I know the same loving God that she did and I can have perfect peace that she is 100 percent again, walking with Jesus.

She lived well. She died well. Her legacy will live on; it will provide peace and comfort for many, many souls.

About the book:

And It Was Beautiful: Celebrating Life in the Midst of the Long Good-Bye (David C Cook, March 2016)

“I was here. I saw beauty. I embraced it.” -Kara Tippetts

How do you live out extravagant love in the everyday moments? How do you celebrate grace when your life turns out differently than the one you dreamed?

Kara Tippetts discovered how to find joy in the small moments of life. She learned how to hold tight to hope even while battling intense physical and emotional pain. And she lived out the truth that God can redeem any story.

In her final book, Kara offers gentle reflections on living and dying well. She invites us to cultivate soft hearts even when we face great disappointment. Her ideas for living are hard-won, wrestled with in the crucible of family, illness, and faith. And her constant reminder is that whether we are in the midst of dark days or mundane moments Jesus is always there, life is surprisingly beautiful, and God is forever good.
